Care Planning and Patient Education

CarePlan is an order selection method that allows the physician to create a comprehensive set of prescriptions, orders, and patient instructions in a fraction of the time it would take to do manually. This is critical, because computerized physician order entry has traditionally been a challenge in the physician workflow. Care plans contain the appropriate medications, orders, instructions, referral suggestions, and health maintenance or disease management elements for the specific disease and clinical presentation. Physician groups and individual physicians may modify these templates to suit local preferences. A set of commonly used orders can be set as the default for any given clinical presentation (e.g. asthma, moderately severe, in a child), so even complex diagnostic or treatment plans can be created in seconds. Once a care plan is created, it not only automatically communicates prescriptions and orders, it posts information to the note; updates the problem, medication, and active orders lists; and generates customized patient instructions.
